Why do I like Jardin de Cerveza Hercules? The home of Hercules beer
There’s a pretty simple answer; it hits 3 of the things I like;
beautiful buildings, though ugly buildings can fall under this category
finding cosy places to hang out
eating, especially if it involves coriander, chili, lemon, coconut and GARLIC
For those perceptive (or obsessed) blog readers you’ll notice that those 3 things are from the about us page, and basically sum me up. If I have a happy tummy, feel like I’m getting a cuddle from the place I’m at and get to chat about beautiful details I can see then I am pretty much the happiest I can be. The other thing that the cerverceria has, but can’t take credit for, is the sunshine. They have Mexico to thank for that.
I like wood. And they use a lot of it.
This is going to sound super cheesy, but I’m going to write it anyway because it’s true. There are so many different surfaces, textures, colours, scales, details, even going to the toilet is an experience. The men’s toilet (this info is from Niek, I didn’t sneak in there) has a skylight with plants crawling through, it feels like you’ve walked into an abandoned building in the jungle.
The vaulted ceilings by the bar give way to the open sky and you can look up to the mountains. You feel like you’re in a city where something is happening, but you can also see nature. It almost feels like you can have everything, like you can live the dream.
The cerverceria is also like a series of caves, you can walk through small entrances from one space to another that has a completely different atmosphere. You start at the bar, which is cosy and familiar. You then move to the open quad where you can soak up the sun, before you head to the games area. It is in an old warehouse with peeling paint and has free ping pong tables and table football. This then leads to an open area, perfect for kids, with a swing set, picnic tables and even a water feature.
As well as wood I also like metal, and Jardin de Cerveza Hercules didn’t let me down. All the higgledy piggedly pipes of the brewery overlapping and swirling behind each other is just fun and exciting. You feel like you’ve found yourself somewhere you’re not allowed, but guess what, you are! You can prop yourself and your beer up next to these gargantuous pipes that at some point I assume had beer flowing through.
